Personal Statement

Reaching out for help and thinking about change can be hard. It helps to remember that we all have the capacity to develop and grow, and that we all need help at times. My practice provides a welcoming and safe space for all.

Many people struggle with feelings of depression and anxiety. They experience challenges in parenting, family life or relationships, have concerns about self-esteem, or worry about behaviors around their own or family members’ substance use or other risky behaviors. As a highly experienced Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, these are all issues that I have helped many people successfully navigate and resolve, and I welcome the opportunity to help new clients do the same. Although I currently focus my practice exclusively on adult and adolescent individuals, my extensive experience with couples and families allows me to bring a richer and more comprehensive perspective to individual work.

Areas of specialty include depression and anxiety; school and work stress; parenting; life-stage transitions including new-parent roles, “empty nesters” and divorce or loss; as well as abuse and trauma. Working with adolescents has long been a special interest for me, and I have extensive experience in helping adolescents who struggle with depression, social and other forms of anxiety, low-self-esteem, and negative or self-destructive choices or behaviors. I also provide a safe space for adults and adolescents who are exploring questions around their gender or sexual orientation.

My training encompasses a variety of clinical approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems and Depth Psychology. Most important to my clinical approach, however, is to see each client for who they are, and to provide treatment attuned to their particular needs and concerns. I work with clients to help them set meaningful goals, and to develop the understanding and strategies needed to reach those goals.
